Email: Maxwell.Benning@nau.edu

Max joined NTAA as the Program Coordinator in June 2024. He previously worked at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Policy and Planning Program contributing to statewide species and land management planning efforts. While working for the Minnesota DNR, Max completed his Master’s in Natural Resources Science and Management at the University of Minnesota, where his thesis research focused on agroforestry adoption by agricultural producers. He holds a Bachelor’s in Anthropology from Northern Arizona University and is glad to be back in Flagstaff, Arizona working out of the ITEP office. Max has extensive experience collaborating with tribal environmental staff during his time at the Minnesota DNR and is excited to continue these relationships at NTAA. In his free time, Max enjoys being outside (hiking, backpacking, and camping) in clean air, reading, and playing with his two new kittens.
